What do I do if my child will be absent?

Please call our office during the morning of the absence and specify the reason for his/her absence. For the safety of our students, we will call a parent/guardian when absences go unreported.

What time does school start and end?

School begins at 7:55 a.m. and ends at 2:30 p.m. We release students at 12:45 p.m. on early release days. See our calendar for those dates.

What is the dress code at Wilson Primary?

We require our students to dress in a white-collared shirt and navy blue bottoms every day, even on field trips. For a list of stores where you may purchase uniform pieces as well as specific guidelines, visit our district website.

What kind of backpack can my child bring?

Students may carry plain backpacks without any writing, drawing, or graffiti of any kind, including nicknames. Parents or students may write their name only on the inside of the pack.

What school supplies does my child need?

Wilson Primary teachers provide lists of needed supplies. We encourage parents to purchase school supplies for their child; however, if you are unable, we will provide the necessary supplies.

Can my child bring his or her cell phone or other electronic devices to school?

We do not permit our students to carry cell phones or other electronic devices (mp3 players, game players, iPods, iPads, etc.); however,we do allow students to use classroom phones to inform parents of after-school activities, such as Homework Lab. We cannot be held responsible for damaged, lost, or stolen items.

How can I contact my child during the school day?

If you need to get a message to your child, please call our office. To cut down on the volume of calls our office receives, we encourage you to make transportation plans prior to the start of the day and call us only be done in cases of urgency.

May I contact my child’s teacher during the school day?

Parents and guardians who would like to talk to their child’s teacher should call the school office either before school begins at 7:55 a.m. or after school dismisses at 2:30 p.m. We will take a message if you call during class hours. We request that you do not interrupt the learning in the classroom by stopping by without an appointment.

Who should I notify about my child’s food allergy or diet restrictions?

If your child has a food allergy, it is extremely important to notify the health office, teacher, and cafeteria staff. We require a doctor’s note each new school year indicating what your child’s allergy is and any special dietary needs.

How much homework can I expect my student to receive?

Wilson Primary requires every student to do homework daily. We require parents/guardians to monitor their child’s homework and sign a log every day. The amount of homework you can expect varies by grade as follows:

  • Kindergarten: 10 to 15 minutes
  • Grades 1 thru 3: 20 to 25 minutes

What is the procedure for picking up my child from school early?

Our office staff is required to ask for a photo ID in order to release a student from school. We will not release a student to any person under 18 and/or not authorized by the parent/guardian. Because time at school is so carefully planned around your child’s education, we ask that you refrain from picking up your child early so he/she doesn’t miss out on any learning
